ABOUT

Ready to join us for an exciting evening hike to the summit of Blomsterdalen, next to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault? Learn more about this interesting and unique seed vault and experience the rich history of coal mining in this area of Svalbard. We will make our way to the top of Blomsterdalshøgda at 320 meters above sea level, where we will have a stunning view over the local area, Adventfjorden, Isfjorden, and maybe even the glaciers on the other side!

We start our evening hike at 19:00 when our guide will pick you up from your accommodation. We drive up to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault to see it from the outside (as entrance is prohibited). Here we will learn more about this unique vault, which is located deep inside the mountain. After exploring this area we will start our hike at the foot of the mountain, slowly hiking our way up to the summit.
On our way we will make sure to have enough short stops for us to enjoy the surroundings we are in, together with a warm drink and some sweets. Don’t forget to be on the lookout for possible wildlife, such as the Svalbard reindeer and the Arctic fox.

Enjoy the beautiful view over the fjord Isfjorden, where you may even see multiple glaciers in the distance when the sky is clear. A short stop on the top will give us the chance to enjoy the evening sun or Northern lights and listen to our guide for some exciting stories about the rich history of Svalbard.
